Riding in the sunshine

December 12, 2009

General attended a jumping clinic 2 weeks ago and it was fun. He doesn’t jump very often because we don’t have good facilities for it where I agist, but it never takes him long to get his groove back.

I’m currently in the market for a new saddle. I’m looking very seriously at the Prestige Meredith. It’s lovely to ride and jump in and has a nice sweet spot and seems to have great panel contact for him. That being said he is quite easy to fit, I am the tricky one!

Anyway here is a pic from our ride this arvo in the sunshine. It has been nice and cool the last couple of days, great riding weather.

Pics from our show

Gen had a show today. He was a very good boy. He’s doing well on the B Quiet.

Here are pics from the day!

This morning’s ride.

September 28, 2009

Update time! Gen was feeling NQR behind 2 weeks ago so I had the bodyworker out and she found various little things that were corrected. The NQR’ness was very subtle and I wondered if I was imagining it but I don’t think I was.

So he had bodywork and 1 week off and then I jumped on him again this morning. He feels fine, back to normal so fingers crossed he stays that way!

We did walk/halt/walk trans in our warm-up this morning and he did some very nice halts, quiet in the bridle and he engaged his HQ in to the halt, rather than letting it drag out behind. I had to keep my leg on tho.

Then we did long sides of the arena (he has to do mostly straight lines the first few rides back) and the diaganols. He did very nice trot and canter long sides, very quiet and forward but his back was pretty soft. V nice!!!

He was a bit spooky at the start, typical TB freshness.

He’s on this calming supplement “B Quiet” which is Vit b/thyiamine. So far so good but it’s exxy so I will only keep up with it if I get super results over time.

Ok that’s all for now!

Wet weather…

September 9, 2009

Wet weather has meant I haven’t been able to ride the last few days. Mr G has been out in his field just hanging out and muddying up his rugs.

He was wormed tonight, although he spat half his paste back out. He is very easy to worm, he stands there quietly with no halter, but it’s a constant challenge to keep the stuff down!

It’s forecast to be very warm this weekend (24 degrees!!!) so it will be time for him to get to work, and also have his first bath of the season. He is maulting like there is no tomorrow!

Meet General!

September 6, 2009

Hi All.

This is a blog all about my horse, General. General is a 16.3hh Thoroughbred gelding who was bred in the Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia. He was born in the year 2000 and he has just turned 9.

General competes locally in showjumping and dressage. We have lessons and clinics whenever possible but mostly we work on our own. This blog will hopefully serve as a training tool so I can keep track of our program and progress.

Thanks for stopping by! I will aim to update this blog several times a week.

:) Generalising
